I had played Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego? on my old computer many years ago. Although it’s very 2D and very ’80s, I found it entertaining and educational.
If I remember the gameplay right, I play as a rookie detective and my mission is to follow and catch the thieves especially Carmen Sandiego. I need to travel around the world based on the clues provided until I’m ready to issue a warrant. For every round, if I get a warrant of arrest right, I get promoted to the next rank.
I’ve never seen the TV game shows that’s why I’m not aware of the spin-offs like Where In Time is Carmen Sandiego?
Now, early this year, Netflix released Carmen Sandiego, an animated series. It is far different from the game because this series fleshed out Carmen’s backstory and most of all, she’s a good thief. She’s a female Robin Hood who steals priced treasures before VILE thieves could get them.
It has 8 episodes and the first two were introduction to the main character’s backstory. Then, starting from the third episode, it features Carmen Sandiego’s adventures with a little touch of lessons on geography.
The series can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Each episode brings out a thing or two about Carmen’s past until we reach the eight episode (the season ender) when we’ll know who adopted her.
I’m going to rate this 5 out of 5 stars because I don’t see any flaw. In fact, I binged-watched on it upon its release. (Sorry, it took me so long to blog about it.) Here’s looking forward to a second season.
